Home-made Crockpot Apple Butter

Home-made Crockpot Apple Butter

You don’t have to be a southern girl like me to appreciate apple butter! Apple butter is my favorite morning additive. Toast, waffles, even oatmeal. I love this stuff. There is something so comforting and nostalgic about it for me. It reminds me of my grandpa. It’s amazing how certain foods can be so heartwarming for us. Deliciously sweet with a touch of spice. This one is a home run.. AND its super easy to make with just a few ingredients and your crockpot.. you can literally walk away from it!

  • 10 medium size apples of your choice
  • 1/4 cup brown rice syrup
  • 1/2 cup stevia
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

**for this batch, I got a little crazy and added 1/4c of chia seeds and 1/4c of unsweetened shredded coconut. I LOVED the addition for little extra pizzaz. The base recipe is always a winner though!

  • Peel, core and chop the apples.
  • In the crock pot cooker place the spices and water ingredients first.
  • Add the apples last and give it a good stir to coat.
  • Cook on low for 4-5 hours. Remove the lid, and stir until the apple are mushy and “fall apart” easily.
  • Continue cooking with the lid off for 45 minutes, until the apple butter thickens slightly.
  • Store in a recycled glass jar for up to three weeks in the refridgerator.
