As you have seen in our adventure through Self Care September, it is so important to take care of ourselves through simple self care practices. These can be simple tasks incorporated into daily life. Neglecting our personal wellness can make it difficult to attend to the needs of our loved ones or our professional lives. This is why it is important for us to sometimes step back and reflect on our self care practices.
Self-reflection is an important part of our development as it enables evaluation of behaviors and assessment of their impact. It is also a useful to identify areas where we need to take better care.
Reflection doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are my ways to easy ways toward reflection.
Get into the right state with the right environment. Find a comfortable, slightly quiet area where you can find a few focused moments. It is best to minimize interruptions.
Get focused with the right questions. Do you have any pressing conflicts or stressors that continue to influence the way you think or feel? Go from there.
Get real.. or truthful with yourself. Getting the right questions isn’t effective until your 100% with your answers. Shed the roles and beliefs that are thrust upon you by social conditioning and allow yourself to essentially just BE YOU. Being truthful to yourself is the key step. Without this honesty, you won’t get very far.
Write or talk your way to clarity. Sometimes by writing or talking about these questions at hand can create a raw, very real perspective. Analysis of the situation by writing and verbalizing is an effective strategy to formulating a solution.
Once you’re clear, monitor and adjust. You have tackled the question, gained clarity, and now the decision to monitor or adjust the situation. This is the decision making process. Commit to the decision. This may just be monitoring the situation or adjusting the situation.
