Homemade Seitan.. Made EASY.

Homemade Seitan.. Made EASY.

Being plant based doesn’t mean you miss out on all your favorites. ONE of my favorites, especially during the summer, is the BBQ sandwich. Dress it up any way you prefer it. This is a great alternative to the animal based forms of BBQ.

This recipe allows you to make an easy, delicious, dense, and plant based meaty staple for your summer BBQs. All without the greasy, stomach bloat, and acid reflux feelings that you can have in the animal based forms. This will give you all the good without all the guilt whether its the saturated fat and calories or just simply the cruelty that comes with consuming meat.

Ingredients:

Dry

  • 2 cups vital wheat
  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1/4 cup chickpea flour
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp pepper, salt

Wet

  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tbsp Vegan BBQ sauce
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke
  • 10 oz firm tofu
  • 1 tsp maple syrup

Instructions:

  • Combine dry ingredients into large bowl.
  • Combine wet ingredients into food processor and mix.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients in the large bowl.
  • Knead for a few minutes.
  • Divide into logs and wrap with foil. Steam for 30 minutes.
  • For a more dense/tougher/meatier consistency: Bake 350 for 1 hour.

Slice to your preferred style and top with a little more BBQ sauce. Serve sammie style or whatever fits your fancy!
