YOUR Guide to Good Posture

Your Guide to Good Posture:

Posture is more than just being confident and poised. Sitting or standing in the right position makes sure the body functions properly.

Why bad posture is BAD?

Bad circulation: slouching or slumping does the same to your spine and can affect circulation. Bad posture can cause vertebrae to deteriorate over time.

Chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain can ensue along with heachaches. Being in a neutral position will relax the position.

Chronic fatigue: moving your body with poor posture is hard on your muscles and joints. Coupled with circulation issues, posture can cause earlier exhaustion.

Causes of bad posture: accidents or injuries, being overweight, foot problems, low self esteem, poor lumbar support while seated, weak muscles, chairs too high or too low, hunching to get closer to a computer or TV scree, unsupportive shoes, genetics, and stress.

The DO’S and DON’TS of Posture:

SITTING:

Do: keep your head straight, shoulders back and relaxed, knees slightly lower than hips, and keeping feet flat on the floor.

Don’t: Try to keep back rod iron straight, work without support for arms, tuck feet under the chair, or cross leg above the knees.

STANDING:

Do: Keep shoulders back and aligned, use stomach muscles and engage your core, slightly bend knees to ease hip pressure.

Don’ts: Stick chest out, stand in the same position for long periods or lock knees.
