Self Care September Day Seventeen: Get your gratitude list going.
Have you ever noticed that when you literally stop and take a moment to be grateful that your day becomes a little brighter? Research has actually shown to make up happier and can increase your longevity and well being. Showing gratitude is easy. It’s free. It improves our health, relationships, and professional parts of our lives.
I started a simple gratitude list by choosing 3-5 things that I am super grateful for over the course of the past week. In practice, I have felt more optimistic, less materialistic, less self-centered and self-conscious, increase overall perception of happiness, slept better, decreased tension, and even increased satisfaction with my life.
Here’s how to start a gratitude list and keep it up:
Commit to writing something every day or schedule one day a week.
Choose your mode of documentation. Pen and paper or on your phone, find a place you can look at.
Make it a daily habit by incorporating time to be grateful into your daily schedule. Make some tea and take just a brief moment to reflect on the list. It might prompt a realization of something that needs to be added.
Find a gratitude friend. Sharing really is caring and can help enrich some of your closest relationships.
Start today. Be grateful.
