Self Care September Day Nine: Decluttering Essential Areas.

Self Care September Day Nine: Decluttering Essential Areas.

Before I made the decision to travel the country working as a cardiac cath/EP RN in the travel nurse world.. I had no idea how many possessions I had and how many of them I NEVER used.

So with simplification I found life. A life that was fuller and happier without “all the things.” Now,  I’m pretty minimalistic but still have a little clutter. Clutter is so easy to accumulate in our convenience first, throwaway mentality of our current culture.

You don’t have to be a textbook minimalist to have your own ideal level of simplicity — what matters most is keeping what’s essential to you, and getting rid of the rest.

SO why declutter? Why simplify?

  • Less stressful. Clutter can create visual distractions and stress.
  • More efficient. Less distractions, more focus.
  • Saves time. Clutter costs time. Looking for things, moving those things, and storing those things.
  • Frees up space. Less clutter means more space for living, playing, working and enjoying life.

Steps to declutter essential areas:

Get collecting. Collect “the things” from the chosen space. ALL. of them. For example, do you have a junk drawer or “catch all” in your kitchen or living room? Collect all of those items. Put them on the counter. Completely empty the space. ALL. of it.

Get picky.  Pick out the few things you love and the ones you use. Sort through the pile, picking  essential items.

Get to throwing. Toss all of the rest out.

Get organizing. Organize your kept items neatly.

Rinse and repeat. Repeat this process in any area you’re trying to declutter.

Change your habits. Clutter didn’t create itself. It’s there because you put it there.

Have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.
