Why I LOVE Lavender & Reasons Why You Should Too.
There is something so wonderful and intriguing about natural remedies. Lavender being one of them! The smell, the beauty of the plant itself aesthetically, and ALL the amazing uses. From stress relief to immunity protecting benefits, lavender is well.. amazing. I planted eleven plants this summer, not to mention one I keep in the house.
For a little extra knowledge.. Lavender is an herb native to northern Africa and the mountainous regions of the Mediterranean. Derived from latin word lavarewhich, it means “to wash.”
Research has shown that in the essential oil form, lavender is effective in treating anxiety, insomnia, depression, and restlessness. It is suggested that lavender can also help digestive issues such as vomiting, nausea, intestinal gas, upset stomach, and abdominal swelling. Lavender has been widely used to help relieve pain from headaches, sprains, toothaches, and sores.
Even this super star comes with precautions so always consult a physician if you’re on any of the following:
- Barbiturates
- Benzodiazepines
- Chloral hydrate
Lavender slows down the central nervous system, most doctors advise patients to stop using lavender at least 2 weeks before surgery.
With planting lavender: lavender needs adequate drainage and air circulation. Do not over water. Allow the soil to dry before watering again. Minimize the chance of having fungus problems with mulch. You can also put sand around the base of the plant for faster water evaporation. Cutting blooms, trim so that the plant thins and has open air circulation.
