Finding your balance in EATING.
Balance, what exactly is it?
The term balanced diet is thrown around the health and fitness industry without any real direction which makes it highly difficult for someone with good dietary intentions to navigate the grocery aisle, prepare satisfying meals, and enjoy what they eat without the guilt and second guessing.
SO what is balance. Balance includes being mindful of the number of calories consumed per day, the portions of nutrient dense options that we consume, and the macronutrients and micronutrient values there in.
Caloric balance is important to maintain a healthy weight. Your weight will remain stable if your calories are in balance, meaning you eat about the same number of calories that your body burns through physical activity. This is the old tried and true intake VS output. If you’re in caloric surplus meaning that you are eating more calories than you burn; you’ll gain weight. When you’re in caloric deficit, meaning you are eating fewer calories than you burn, you will see a fat loss or weight loss occur.
The TYPE of calories is also just as important. Eating nutrient dense foods provide the most bang for your buck per say. You get all the wonderful things your body needs to run efficiently; the vital macronutrients and micronutrients for the least amount of calorie cost. Some foods, like avocado, are worth the extra few calories because of all the super food qualities that they provide your body. A good fat to burn fat. This can be a little overwhelming but if you consume a whole food, plant based diet with minimizing the extra “crap” (chemically, processed, additives, and sugar) you are pretty much guaranteed to be eating everything that your body needs for you to look better, feel better, and live better. Isn’t that all we ever want at the end of the day? A little balance goes a long way.
