Self Care September Day Twenty-One: Adult Coloring. There is something so comforting and nostalgic about coloring. Even as an ADULT.. I love to color. It has been a personal stress reliever for me for as long as I can remember, and I can’t hid how excited I was when adult coloring books started appearing on shelves. It had finally become socially acceptable. Yes, I have had friends think I was crazy. Research has shown that coloring generates wellness, calmness, and stimulates brain areas related to motor skills, the senses and creativity.
With all that out in the open.. there are some definite benefits. So check it out in a nut shell:
- Brains experience relief by entering a meditative state
- Stress and anxiety levels are lowered
- Positivity increases as you engage your brain and motor skills.
- Mindfulness is increases through focus and concentration.
- Unplugging from technology and engaging in something manually stimulating promotes creativity.
So what’s so different about the adult coloring books than your average children’s book? These books have a higher quality of paper weight, intricate designs, and an older variety of themes.
Adult coloring can combine nostalgia with engaging, intricate designs. Some of my favorites are from Barnes & Noble. They have a whole Harry Potter line. Super nerd alert, but I am shamelessly forever a Harry Potter fan. Check them out here!
