Self Care September Day Twenty: Heal with herbal tea.
IF you have been in the Living Whole community for longer than 5 minutes.. you probably already know how much I LOVE herbal tea. Tea has so many soothing, health rejuvenating, and mood uplifting benefits. They have been used for their medicinal properties for ages, from colds, indigestion, infection, and tension.
But when choosing a herbal tea remedy, make sure you pick the right one. Herbal teas such as thyme, peppermint and ginger have great therapeutic qualities.
Although fruit teas are delicious, they are often blended from synthetic ingredients. Herbal, organic, non-gmo varieties are the very best choice. Avoid any teas with artificial flavors.
Here are some great herbal choices and the benefits you could reap by consuming them:
Elderflower: traditional cure for colds because it is an effective decongestant.
Lemon Verbena: citrus is utilized as a digestive aid because it can break down fats within the digestive tract.
Ginger: With an infection or cold, ginger can promote a fever and decrease cold/flu recovery time. It’s also been shown to dilate blood vessels and stimulate circulation.
Nettle: Rich in minerals, nettle is a good source of iron, calcium and silica and give you a little perk when you’re feeling under the weather. Iron produces red blood cells, essential for energy. Calcium and silica are important for building bones, hair and teeth.
Chamomile: Hello relaxation and relief from insomnia. Chamomile contains tryptophan, an amino acid known for tranquilizing effects.
Green Tea: Promoting stronger and more resilient tissue cells, green tea has anti aging properties and tons of antioxidants which protect us from damage from pollutants and toxins we encounter in our daily activities.
Peppermint: A traditional remedy used for nausea and vomiting, peppermint aids in fat breakdown within the digestive tract by stimulating bile production by the gall bladder.
